Purpose of the treatment
Facial rejuvenation treatment with botulinum toxin injections inhibits the action of the muscles
(a process called denervation) that cause the formation of expression wrinkles.
Botulinum toxin is a purified therapeutic agent used to reduce wrinkles and fine lines
on the face, providing a visible and natural rejuvenating effect. It works by controlled relaxation
of the facial muscles.
Frequently treated areas
- Glabellar lines (between the eyebrows)
- Forehead wrinkles
- Periorbital wrinkles (“crow’s feet” – around the eyes)
- Neck cords (platysmal bands)
Botulinum toxin is also used in the treatment of hyperhidrosis
(excessive sweating) in the armpits.
Results and duration
After injection, the muscles reduce their excessive activity, and wrinkles become significantly less visible.
The effects appear gradually over a few days and generally last between 3 and 6 months,
depending on the individual characteristics of each patient.
To maintain the results, botulinum toxin treatment can be repeated periodically,
as recommended by the specialist doctor.
Risks and possible side effects
Botulinum toxin treatment is safe and well tolerated, however, in rare cases, temporary reactions may occur such as:
- Headache
- Nausea or dizziness (lightheadedness)
- Ptosis (temporary drooping of the eyelid or eyebrow)
- Minor bruising at the injection site
All these reactions are rare and usually disappear within a few days.
